Saxophonist Jayden Blockley is regarded as one of Australia’s upcoming jazz talents.
Originally from Perth, Jayden has recently completed his undergraduate studies at the prestigious James Morrison Academy in Mount Gambier. He studied under the guidance of some of the most in demand Australian Jazz musicians which include names such as, Mat Jodrell, Carl Mackey, Angela Davis, Grant Windsor and was headed by James Morrison himself. Upon graduating, he was awarded the medal of Academic Excellence amongst his competitive cohort.
In 2018, Jayden was the winner of the prestigious James Morrison Scholarship. The scholarship has a long history and boasts names of some Australia’s finest jazz musicians including Troy Roberts, Jamie Oehlers, Mat Jodrell and Dane Alderson.
In the last few years, Jayden has been involved in performances at Generations In Jazz festival. Through the festival, Jayden has performed alongside names such as Gordon Goodwin, Wycliffe Gordon, Kurt Elling, Joey DeFrancesco and Jeff Clayton.
Jayden has also toured Australia alongside James Morrison with the James Morrison Academy Big Band and has also made appearances being featured with the James Morrison Quartet.
In 2019, Jayden recorded his debut album as bandleader, “I Wrote A Song For Her, For Me” For ABC Jazz. The much anticipated album was released on the ABC Jazz label in March 2020. It features mostly original compositions and boasts a lineup of some of Australia’s most unique and sought after jazz musicians.
